I like to say that I am a nature enthusiast first and an artist second. Creating started as an outlet to express all my love and fascination with the natural world. Therefore, most of my work starts as an outdoor exploration, whether purposeful or not. Just like I need to breathe air and drink water, everyday I need to spend time outside. The fresh air, animal calls, the warmth of the sun is all necessary for me to feel inspired. As I’ve grown and evolved I've realized I want to use my body of work as a tool to insight change regarding environmental issues. It's difficult for me to just sit around and do nothing when there's so much that needs changing. After much research and learning in art, ecology, and environmental activism, I’m creating a body of work that is both beautiful and meaningful. My experimentation has only just begun but I really have found something special in the medley of recycled paper, decoupage, and foraged organic materials. Combining this with my atelier training, I paint scenes that tell natural stories from an equilibrial perspective. These narratives show the environment from the viewpoint of an equal participate in the ecosystem. Encouraging the viewer to see themselves not as separate/above the environment but instead another piece in the puzzle.
